I have to admit, I have been enjoying my mornings free to prep dinner or maybe even get in a short workout or breakfast BUT.....I am missing my little Doodes! I even found myself feeling jealous the other day when I saw on Facebook that someone I know is on a wait list for a Goldendoodle. My first response was WHAT??? .........then reality struck. I cant be all things to all people, especially if I dont have any puppies!! Our intent has always been to intentionally raise well socialized and tended to puppies, not to just get a lot of pups on the ground. But, I am still missing "them". Finding out that Leighla wasnt pregnant was very sad for our whole family and those on her wait list. Leighla's puppies have always been so fun. They have great temperaments, cool coat colors and Leighla was a great mom. The science says she should be pregnant, but nature gets it's way no matter what. We had progesterone tests done to know for sure when her breeding days where. I drove back and forth in Wind, Rain, Ice and Snow from our house to the stud's home the week before and after Christmas, including Christmas Eve!!! Jessica, the stud owner, was so gracious and excited for us too. Sadly, it wasnt to be. Emma and Jimmy were so excited to get a Leighla 2.0. Jimmy even had a backyard fence ready for "Okranamous Jones" We are all feeling the loss of those cuddly awesome pups that were not to be. Now we will get Leighla spayed so that we can be sure she stays healthy and lives a LONG LONG life! So what is next? We are waiting for Reign to start her heat cycle. The plan is to breed her back to an English Retriever. These will be Reverse F1b puppies--3/4 Retriever. Yes, they will have a higher shed trait but Oh, the dogs that they will be!! Reign's DNA and PenHip scores are tremendous making her physically a great Doode Mom candidate. Add in that goofy temperament and these are going to be awesome dogs and fun fun puppies to raise. The dad, Murphy, has a well bred pedigree and the quiet kind temperament that has made the English Retrievers so desired. He's quiet handsome too!! I get first pick!!! Not even going to pretend otherwise! Nala is going to be bred to Leo, a Bernese Mountain Dog. Jessica has been so gracious to offer us a 3rd go at the stud fee that we paid for Leighla so we are going to use Nala for a final try at a litter of Bernadoodles. Here is Jessica's website if you are interested in knowing more about them: https://www.cwbernedoodles.com/ Because of Nala's DNA, these will probably be all red with maybe a little white. Im sending in a DNA sample to get an updated color panel on her so we can know what color of puppies to expect. Her leg/knee seems completely healed. She is back to running loops around Reign and enjoying the snow. We know she is up to the challenge of being mom to a clutch of little Berni's for us this Fall. Emma and Jimmy will take first pick, if they still have Puppy Fever. Ive been looking for a 3rd female to add to our pack but I just have not found the right one. I had cash in hand and was ready to go to Ohio to pick up a Poodle that someone had for sale. Something in my "gut" told me it wasnt right SO I called her, apologized and came home. I recently saw another poodle that a small breeder was selling but the timing was a little off for us. Yes, I would like to have more puppies available more often but just getting a dog to have one, doesnt fit with our vision. Our goal continues to be to raise the best puppy and grown up dog that we can...Even if we have these gaps in available puppies. I'll have to refer back to this post to remind myself that I missed the chaos of a new litter when we're next in the midst of the chaos!
Have a Happy Spring
Peace out! Sherry
